No matter the season, it goes without saying that my dresses are some of the simplest and most convenient pieces in my wardrobe. In summer, I throw one on and run out the door with barely a thought because they’re the most practical item one can wear while summer temps blaze. In winter, the added thought is only to slip into a pair of tights and maybe layer a turtleneck underneath. No matter the season, however, dresses are always complicated by one thing: coats. In the summer, temperatures can swing from 90 degrees midday to 65 degrees at night in the blink of an eye, which means it’s essential to have a coat to combat the evening chill. Athleisure trends always have a way of sneaking up somewhere, and this time it’s the unitard making waves. With the rise of ballet-core (specifically courtesy of Miu Miu) it was only a matter of time before one-pieces were the subject of Instagram outfit shots and runway collections.

I personally never envisioned myself jumping on the bandwagon, but five unitards deep and a few months later I’m all in. In the middle of a heat wave, there’s nothing better than the ease of just slipping on one garment and calling it a day—layering on a ton of clothes is the last thing I want to do.  A minimalist unitard is my one-and-done solution and my lazy girl saving grace. When fashion is your job, you end up consuming a lot of it. Every day I scroll through runway images, press releases, shopping websites, and social media to gauge which trends are rising and which items are worth buying. While fun, it also means that I see a ton of outfits. And for me to take notice, a look truly has to wow me.
