Far fewer hits than failures at New York Fashion Week in fall 2021

Despite ongoing challenges during the pandemic one has to admire the designers who took part in New York Fashion Week in fall 2021. While the majority were producing lookbooks, designers like Jason Wu and Ulla Johnson have opted for conventional runway shows (with no audience). The heavyweights Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren have been completely removed from the calendar.

Wu started with a supermarket full of groceries and flowers. His models showed fresh midi skirts, coats with fringes and knee-high boots. Former Yeezy designer Maisie Wilen ran models with a range of neon looks on the water. The series again delivered luxury clips. The Vogue lookbook of the minimalist brand Co included the supermodel Kirsty Hume, while Johnson showed a superbly constructed collection of rich prints.
