Earlier this year, I encountered a couple of large aviator frames at one of my favorite vintage stores that stopped me dead in my tracks. Although I haven’t worn silhouette sunglasses in years, this particular pair stands out to me because they remind me of the ones my very Italian grandfather always wore. So when the store owner told me they were a deadstock style from Italy, I bought them right away. Scroll down to see them in action.
Fast forward to the summer of 2021, the fashion crowd joined me in my obsession with retro sunglasses . Although I can say that they have become * the * accessory trend of the moment. If I see anything in them, I know they are a fashion person. But let’s look at the details. No, these aren’t the skinny aviators with metal frames we used to know. Instead, this new wave is about putting on a ' 70s aesthetic that is anything but minimal. Details defining the trend in modern times include large acetate frames in place of smooth metals, colored lenses (especially the transparent yellow and orange shades), and the overall vibe you can have who lifted them from my own grandfather’s closet .
To show you what I mean, I've put together examples from Instagram that highlight how wearing stylish retro sunglasses is now the style set. I also went ahead and purchased 20 pairs that reflect this whole Aesthetic, so don ' t keep scrolling for more.
